Would a convertible really raise my insurance rates?

So im 16 and im about to get my first car. My mom and I agreed on a Volkswagen Beetle. However, when i asked if I could get the convertible Beetle she said no, because it would raise the insurance too high.
So my question is: Would getting a convertible beetle cause a large raise in our car insurance? If so, would you have an estimate as to how much it would cost extra?
Thanks for your time guys!

Yes it would, not as safe as a hardtop and easier to vandalize and rob stuff from. You’ll have to check rates from the insurance companies, it will vary.

Unfortunately your mom is right. In the event of a rollover you at least have a chance of survival in a hardtop. In a convertible you get your brains scraped out on the pavement. Not trying to put down convertibles mind you. I love them and have owned several but, they are more expensive to insure. Vandalism is higher on ragtops as well. Insurance rates have so many variables I wouldn’t even attempt to guess. You need to check that out with an agent.

Of course. Being a convertible will raise the risk, and thereby the policy rates. Did you suspect your mom would lie to you?
