companies compete for business and this keeps rates low. Why can’t we buy our health care insurance the same way? You pay 0-00 a year for coverage with 0 deductible. Problem solved!

First of all, Obama wants to make insurance more available to all. And change the system so that it is cheaper, and also so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Holland and Switzerland where private companies are involved in providing insurance.

Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well.

FACT – the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.

FACT – the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.

That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

So to answer the question, you can.

You can’t be refused auto insurance because you had a previous accident (although you will pay higher rates).

Not everybody drives a car, so the risk pool is smaller.

Please find me a plan that only costs $800 a year. Please.

We basically do. Even though most of us get our insurance through our employers they are most certainly looking for the best deal. If you are buying your own directly then you probably are doing the same..

Problem with health insurance in relation to car insurance– car insurance is in place should you have an accident or someone CAUSES you to have an accident. You pay for it yourself, and those who don’t pay for it just don’t have it. Health insurance and auto insurance are not even comparable. Why should the "rich" be soaked to cover millions of Americans with sub-standard care? As for competition, please wake up and read the bill–it outlaws private insurance policies being written after the date of the bill. So if you already have your insurance, okay. If not, you can’t have a private one! Leaving many off the private rolls, what do you think happens to the cost? It GOES UP.

Duh, Healthcare Insurance Companies do compete but drug manufaturers, doctors and malpractice lawyers keep the rates going up.

That would be good. Mine is subsidized by my employer and it is high. Also they try and refuse things that I need. I have rarely had any health issues, but I have had to call and ask why x-rays etc have not been covered. I have found when I call and complain in a civil manner, they pay for it. I think they are counting on the average person not following up. That is wrong.

Great idea. But practically one can wish you sweet dreams. There are a lot of folks like me who do not have health insurance because we do not have $800-$1000 s year to spend with or without $500 deductibles. So problem is not solved. There is just one more problem to solve.
