If you dont have a car, then you are not mandated by the STATE to buy auto and not by the federal Government. So i should be allowed to chose Not to buy health instead of being FORCED to by the federal government. So the health care bill is unconstitutional.

And breathing is only mandatory if you plan on living?

  • subwm4bush 5:00 am on May 18, 2010

Everyone uses health care. If you do not want to participate in insurance we should be able to deny you emergency room care.
We ALREADY pay into medicare, so it is obviously not unconstitutional.

Auto insurance protects cars. Health insurance protects life…You don’t have to get health insurance if you’re dead either

But you have a body, which, I assume is your car metaphor, so the argument you have put forth does not make sense.

Take it up with the GOP. It was their demand that there be a mandate.

    Correct.
    your point is valid.

the insurance mandate is essentially a tax on your life. as you said, you can choose to not drive in order to opt out of auto insurance. however, you can not choose not to live to opt out of the health insurance mandate

your logic is flawed if you were dead you would have no need for health insurance – you will have the ability to choose still it will just cost you money if you choose no

personally I think this is wrong if you don’t want health insurance don’t buy it – but if you get sick don’t go to the hospital unless you have cash

  • yutsnark 5:00 am on May 18, 2010

It’s equivalent. Health insurance is mandatory if you own and operate a human body.

This is a case where liberals are smarter than you. By the way, that’s how it’s spelled: "liberals."

  • Jesus was a Hippie™ 5:00 am on May 18, 2010

Actually Stupid the Liberals are trying to pass a law in California that makes Car Insurance more expensive for people who have been struggling to pay their bills.

In California the Liberals want to make a law that causes insurance rates to go up if you ever miss a payment.

  • Accountant From Cleveland 5:00 am on May 18, 2010

Because of the quotes on my profile.

They also don’t seem to see the difference between a State requiring it and the Federal Government doing so. Most don’t seem to realize that the Constitution is a set of rules for the FEDERAL Government to follow not the States.

  • BabySpittle.com 5:00 am on May 18, 2010

So mandatory auto insurance when you are driving and have the ability to cost others a lot of money.
    Understandable.

But then you somehow argue against mandatory insurance when you have the ability to cost others a lot of money, preferring those people’s health costs be paid by those who are insured (when they visit the emergency room).

Conservatives again have trouble making a valid comparison.

  • honestly63 5:00 am on May 18, 2010

You’re right, it is not the same thing, since most people do not consider "not living" a choice.

I think the point being made is that, if you choose not to buy auto insurance and drive anyway, we taxpayers/insurance holders end up paying the bill. Similarly, if you choose not to buy health insurance, we taxpayers/insurance carriers end up paying your emergency bill (higher costs from the hospitals and insurance carriers).

I thought conservatives were all about personal responsibility, so I would think you’d applaud a bill that makes people more responsible for their behavior.

In fact, if you Google, "Health care mandate Republican idea", you will find that the mandatory coverage idea actually began as a Republican idea.

The last I heard you could choose not to buy health insurance, but you would be charged a penalty, which seems only fair if you will be asking the rest of us to support any emergencies that happen to you later on.
