What conservatives want to do is remove the states’ ability to regulate health insurance policies. Allow companies to sell policies across state lines without obeying the rules for those states.
This would be a huge power grab for the health insurance industry. They would be able to kick so many people out of their policies. And the "cherry picking" would get worse.
Why do conservatives support this idiocy? It would make things severely worse.

You do know that the regulations that keep the health care companies in state borders are the reason for low competition and high prices right?
eelfins 3:03 am on January 26, 2010
It’s already regulated. The Dems want a total government takover. That’s going too far.
heathersonline 3:03 am on January 26, 2010
what i think they are proposing is that interstate purchasing be allowed, so that i can go to a company in a different area to get a better price. nice try on that spin. you are dishonest.
Gwen 3:03 am on January 26, 2010
Albert’s right. The current gov’t restrictions take away from the competition that would allow for better pricing options.
§§pecial Unicorn™ 3:03 am on January 26, 2010
Opening up business across state lines means more competition, thus, lower prices for the consumer. So, your statement is wrong. Have you not noticed that GOVERNING hasn’t stopped those prices from going through the roof? Or are you just in favor of more government control? Fine, but I am not.

Not necessarily. In New York, due to a preexisting condition, I would need to at least double my income to afford insurance, and then my condition is not covered. The same policy from Nebraska I could afford with what I make now.
In New York, psychiatric care, chiropractic care, and drug counseling are mandated as are other functions, necessitating the extra expenses for procedures I do not need or want. Where is my choice on the matter?

You imply that "the rules the state put into place" some how protects from "be able to kick so many people out of their policies. And the "cherry picking" would get worse."
This is not what most state insurance rules deal with, and in fact is continuity of insurance is major element of the proposed health care reform.
The idiocy is to require an individual to loose their insurance coverage because they moved from one state to the next.
The proposal is to provide uniformity of coverage from state to state.
It likely would bring sanity o the industry and reduce waste bureaucratic costs.
