Why do states support mandatory auto insurance but not health insurance?
Could it be that they are looking out for the insurance industry because they make a lot of money in auto insurance and then pay back the politicians and afraid of health insurance because it may cut into their profits?

Because auto insurance is handled at the state level. the individual mandate exeeds the powers of the Federal government.
See how easy it is.
BTW auto insuranc eis only mandatory if you own a vehicle.

1. Because auto insurance is only mandatory if you have a car, which is optional.
2. Mandating Auto insurance ensures you can pay for another person’s car if you get into an accident with them. It secures the other party’s rights. Health insurance is all about you.

Auto insurance is mainly to protect others from you. Also owning a automobile is not mandatory and you do not need to buy it just for simply existing.

Because if I hit you while driving down the road, and I don’t have insurance, and you only carry liability, then you will have a hard time getting money to get your vehicle repaired. By states enforcing drivers carry insurance, it protects us in the event that another driver does damage to our vehicle.
But my not having health insurance doesn’t have as much of a negative impact on you as not having the car insurance.
And by making insurance companies cover pre-existing conditions, I find it very hard to believe that they have any interest for the benefit of insurance companies.

Owning and driving a car is a priviledge and a choice.

No one is required to carry full coverage on an automobile (excluding those who have a car loan). Mandatory auto insurance is liability insurance that covers damage that drivers might do to others. It does not cover damage that they might do to their own property or person. Is it really that hard to recognize the difference?
