Do you really think companies do nothing besides take you money?

Do you think the same thing about your ?

Do you think the same thing about your car ?

It seems like there are a lot of people here that have no understanding of how works. Then they blame the companies because they don’t live up to their made up definitions of them.

P.S. They are businesses not charities.
Bored student: Stop sending them your money then, very simple.
Yes a few of you proved it again.

Homeowners and car insurance companies do not use death panels to deny care to those they are meant to cover. Health insurance companies do, and refuse to cover others due to pre-existing conditions. The reforms are about ending that.

FACT – Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should [a]
FACT – PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet [b]
FACT – Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare [c]
FACT – the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage [d]
FACT – Obama was elected to bring in change [e]
FACT – Obama wants to stop insurance companies screwing the American people [f]
FACT – The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and in Switzerland [g]

If anyone can prove the facts above are wrong, e-mail me and let me know.

Because they are told that they are evil and stealing their money. I thank God for the availability of health-insurance..

Oh, we do understand, we just object to the fact that they are buisnesses, and as such are out there to take our money.
Especially with car insurance… if its compulsory make it government run and have it run at cost.

They take on risk in order to make a profit. I do feel the same about all insurance, I would not buy any if I had a choice. I am willing to take that risk myself.

I have not received much out of all the money spent on insurance. It is much less expensive to pay the doctor for my health care and not have insurance. Had one small fender bender five years ago and the repair was less than the deductible. All of the money I spent on home insurance and car insurance went to someone else. All of it.

It is no different than all the government welfare and social programs. You get screwed.

I understand how they work… it’s horrible when they do just drop people as soon as they get sick…

it’s one thing if the insurance company pays out the max and then lets them go… it’s another when they just leave them…

I understand that they are self centered crooks

You need to rephrase your question to:

    "Why don’t Republicans/Conservatives understand………"

  • magick 2:02 am on September 12, 2010

And if you pay your premiums for years and they deny your daughter treatment based on cost then that’s just business. Right ???? There is a world of difference between replacing a few shingles from a storm or a fender on the car. If that is your definition of business then dismantle the whole system and go with single payer. Period………END anti-trust exemptions…….

People want more than they put in & are aghast when insurance companies want to make a profit.

  • Vova34 2:02 am on September 12, 2010

they are businesses but it does not mean that money is more important than persons well being. People pay money in exchange for service like insurance and their problem with insurance companies is that they are not getting their moneys worth of service. The whole idea of insurance is that you pay
a reasonable monthly payment to insurance company and if you get into trouble they will cover your @ss. They are not suppose to bail on you once you cost them to much money.

because many more people are willing to pay for an oil change or a/c – heater repair than pay for a minor ailment that may require a doctors visit. health insurance is used for all the wrong reasons today thus making the costs out of control (which by the way, the insurance companies just love). if people only used this for major health problems, they would realize substantial premium savings. once again, only the people themselves can solve this supposed "healthcare" problem by taking "personal responsibility" of their daily lives and only use insurance for major or catastrophic events.

I understand that they only make a 3% profit while soft drink companies make 18% profit.

And why don’t we talk about reforming our higher education systems? Have you seen how expensive it is to go to college these days? It keeps going up and they make almost 50% profits. It’s out of control.

If the college and university school systems weren’t run by rich liberals I bet we’d see reform.

It’s true that not many people understand the concept of insurance. The fact is that insurance is simply a form of gambling. When you buy insurance, you’re betting that something bad is going to happen. The insurance companies take the other side of that bet.

And just as gambling casinos rig the games and stack the odds to make sure that the house always wins in the long run, so insurance companies do the same thing. If you examine the fine print on any policy, you will learn (if you can actually read the tiny print and penetrate the legalistic language) that the insurance companies reserve the right to do whatever they want whenever they want; that the provider’s decision is final and not subject to appeal; and that the purchaser of the policy had better sit down and shut up if they ever want to be able to obtain any kind of coverage in the future.

Insurance companies further hedge their bets by purchasing legislators who pass laws requiring every single person to purchase insurance. This mandatory purchase has been used in auto insurance for some time, and is now making it’s way into health care. Think of it this way: If you owned a business that produced buggy whips, wouldn’t it be great for you if the government passed a law requiring every car on the road to carry a buggy whip at all times? Who cares if anybody ever NEEDS the buggy whips, or even if the whips actually work. The point is that everybody HAS to pay you money to drive legally, and so you, the buggy whip manufacturer, are set for life. The insurance racket works exactly the same way.
