Rates for coverage vary a lot due to many factors; you can look online for quotes, then speak to the agents that will contact you

See a local insurance broker who handles individual health plans. They can give options and costs. There’s no cost or obligation to ask.

I can’t state enough how important it is to shop around. To be honest I’ve found them all to be expensive. I looked at benefits from Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Blue Choice of SC, Aetna, and a couple others I’d never heard of and the lowest rate I was quoted for single coverage was for $191.00 per month. Most of the plans I looked at didn’t provide co-pays and had high deductibles. Unfortunately individual insurance policies can be quite costly. The good thing is that you can attempt to claim them on your taxes, provided your medical costs, to include health insurance premiums that aren’t pre-tax, come to at least 7.5% of your annual income. Hope you have better luck than I have finding a reasonably priced plan. Best of luck!

If you are pretty young, say 20 years old, insurance is not that expensive but if not, how can you afford a private policy on a part-time job? If you don’t have too many medical problems you can go to a community clinic and pay on a sliding scale basis.

Someone suggested an insurance agent and I agree with that. They can put their finger on all kinds of plans for you.

I would educate yourself with an online quote and then talk to a local broker who is more familiar with your local marketplace.

Insurance should be bought through a broker. Brokers are free and can show you plans from multiple companies. When you process the app through the broker then he/she is compensated by the company. Circumventing the broker and going direct is only done by uneducated consumers because it saves no money and doesn’t get you an advocate on your side should claims or billing issues arise.

To be perfectly honest with you, I’d be a little hesitant in purchasing any health Ins. right now. The way congress is going, it’s a role of the dice as to what’s going to happen with any individual policies right now. If there is a definite health need to purchase , I’d start with the state licensed BC & BS. policy. Rather expensive but they would be in an inside position to see the changes coming down the pike and give you adequate time to make any adjustments.
