When you apply for auto insurance, can it start straight away?

I just bought a car, and didn’t have any before.
Before I drive it, I want to make sure I’m insured.
But I need to drive it soon.
Once I’ve chosen the insurance company, how long does it take to get started? Can the coverage start immidiately.
More specifically, I’m looking at AAA and the winner for consumerReports : Amica.

Your agent can start insurance immediately, however, if they find something they don’t like in your record, they are likely to cancel your policy and most likely give you a full refund.
Last time I checked, AAA was a bit pricey. Make sure to compare apples to apples when you buy insurance.

AAA is among the best. Immediate coverage. You can do it over the phone.
