I have had a few blemishes on my record, some tickets and an accident, but my state requires full coverage on a bike that is not paid in full, what are your suggestions??

Do not go with Progressive!! They WILL screw you over if you file a clam!!

    Try Dairyland, Allstate or Geico.

Since most of us don’t work for the companies why not just get quotes from everyone.

Only you can answer that question by getting quotes from each insurance company because the price is going to depend on your age, the type of bike you ride, its engine size, its age, its value, where you live (large city, smaller town, rural), and your past traffic record. Geico and Progressive are OK, but you’ll usually find the cheapest price from Dairyland Insurance (division of Sentry) that insures only motorcycles. You can check them out at http://www.sentry.com/DairyLandInsurance/Default.aspx

Progressive is better but Geico is the worst. And there is one even better than Progressive but first let me tell you a story.

I went to Geicos site and they were almost twice as high as what I was paying lol.

They are passing all that advertising they do onto the consumer in higher rates.

I kept switching insurance companies lower and lower and I am now with TRIPLE A or AAA and aint nobody beating them.

I am paying less than half of what I was paying before. AAA rocks. Tell them you want basic liability just the minimum the law requires. If you can tell them you have been licensed over 3 years with your bike license its even lower. If you tell them you took the msf course its even lower.

The best insurance is from USAA if you have it. Or from Oregon Mutual.

  • Captain Awesome 12:00 pm on February 22, 2010

USAA doesn’t deal with bikes anymore unless you are already insured with them. They will refer you to Progressive Drive. That is what I have but I’m about to shop around some more. I’m 24 with a 1650cc bike that I built myself. My insurance is $135/month with full coverage. Don’t go bare minimum. If you wreck and you have to pay other peoples’ medical bills, the minimum won’t cover it and you will get sued. My wife used to sell insurance.

Call around. That is the only way you will get a straight answer.

have you checked with state farm?

i pay around $35/month for full coverage on my R1; however, i’m 31.

Got this from the motorcycle show in NYC. They look at all insurance coverages that would be the least expensive for you. http://www.cycleinsuranceagency.com

Pay in full any balance owed on your bike and then merely insure the bike for public liability only. Your insurance rate is high due to having to protect the lienholders interest via comprehensive, theft and collision coverage. Stop that nonsense and pay off the balance due on the bike as quickly as possible. The current public liability insurance coverage in California for a under 650 cc motorcycle is about $400 even for a person under 26 years of age.

    Good luck!
