First of all, don’t believe talking lizards and people that you are in good hands. You have to shop around. I only carry liability because I consider myself a very defensive driver. On average I avoid 1-2 accidents per month by just paying attention to careless drivers and anticipating the cut-off’s, lane merges and sudden stops.
Regardless of the coverage you choose, I have found in my state the cheapest company is Eerie insurance. I was with Progressive for about a year and they were reasonable.
What you need to do is constantly challenge your agent to lower your rate. Use other company quotes as leverage. "Remind" them that you are a safe driver, or have mutilple cars etc. There are dozens of discountable situations. Tell them you need to drop coverage at the end of the current term and go with another company. I will bet they remember another discount! Avoid agent tricks or quick fixes. I called my agent yesterday and she said we have given you every discount available, however if you take our renters insurance, you can save nearly $80 per year on your automotive. Wow that sounds good, let’s crunch some numbers. That deal would save me a whopping $6 per month on my car insurance, but add about $40 per month to the renters insurance.(Which I could probably get for that price anyway). Always do the math and be hard to please. If all else fails, go online and compare rates. These guys are hungry for new clients and will be willing to make a deal.
    Good luck.
