In Pennsylvania, it is illegal for an insurance company to discriminate based on the breed of dog you own. So are they giving another reason for coverage denial? If not, let them know that you know that what they are doing is illegal and call the state insurance commissioner to lodge a complaint. Regardless, call State Farm. With the exception of the state of Ohio, State Farm’s policy is not to ask what breed of dog you own. They ask only how many dogs and if they have ever bitten anyone. FARMERS!!! I talked to a ton of insurance co. and this is the only one that does not discriminate against breed. They just want to know bite history. AND! You want to make sure you have umbrella coverage to the tune of at least 1,000,000.00. Because most of the time when a law suite is filed, even if the insurance co. pays out the max, it isn’t enough. Better safe than sorry. Good luck, and be responsible!

The only major I heard is State Farm. Try some of the smaller independent ones also. It might help if your dog has passed Good Canine certification & obedience training to show dog is well behaved & has a solid background & you are concerned owner.
