Newsflash! You’re not covered for flood, with homeowners insurance! Flood is SEPERATE. If you’re in Hurricane Alley, you also MIGHT need a seperate wind policy, if wind is excluded on your homeowners policy.
You need to talk to your agent before you buy your policy, so you know what is covered, and what isn’t.
Typically, you’d be covered if someone sues you because they fell on your property. You’d be covered if someone breaks into your car and steals your stuff. You’d be covered if you have a fire in the home. You’d be covered if, well, an alien spaceship landed on your house causing it to collapse.

It all depends on the policy you buy.
There is no such thing as a policy that will cover "everything".
Your question is much too broad for us to answer here.
I suggest you call your agent and make an appointment to sit down with him/her and discuss your policy.

Yeah flood is typically covered separately through a government program. Earthquakes are also exlcuded most of the time (but can often be added on by an endorsement or by purchasing a new policy). Check the limits each company offers on Jewelry, Guns, Furs. Do they offer replacement cost? What percentage? 125% replacement cost means that if your house is insured for $300,000 but costs $375,000 to replace, the insurance company will pay it. Some companies have 150%. Also, what about sewer and drain backup. What if your sewer pipes flood your house. That type of flood is covered on some policies. Some policies include ID theft and some extras like that. I hope that helps.
The best thing to do in my opinion is to fill out a quote form at http://www.myinsurancequotes.net. An agent in your area will contact you and tell you about the companies that home insurance. He or she will be able to go through the specifics with you and help you make sure you are covered for everything you need to be.
