  I am a 19 year old driver and have gotten various quotes from other auto insurers who’s premiums are almost twice as much as Mercury’s. How can Mercury Auto Insurance keep their rates so low? Bad service? Are they a scam?

  I think I’m losing it !! LOL – I asked my insurance agent (state farm) yesterday what my homeowners insurance rate would be if I RAISED my deductible from 1000 to 2000 dollars (in effort to save some money on the insurance costs) – they reply back that it would INCREASE the premium by about 20 bucks !! Am I crazy or is this incorrect? Shouldn’t it go Down !!??   So my wife was in an accident in February, and she ended up totaling the car. She also got a citation for reckless driving at the same time. Our insurance rates didn’t jump that high at the time, but now that we have financed a new car, we need full coverage insurance on it. I have been looking at quotes, and it’s pretty expensive. I was wondering if anyone in a similar situation has found a good price on full coverage insurance?

• Homeowner Insurance keeps going up, Home Values going down?

  Assuming you remain a good driver and keep the same car, most auto insurance rates will go down as the car gets older. So if you don’t make any homeowners claims and with housing values dropping, why does my homeowner insurance keep going up? From 2005 to 2008, my premium’s gone up about 30%. I think they claim that the housing "replacement value" has also gone up. How true is that?
