She thinks it’s illegal for insurance companies to use your criminal history to decide what to charge you for a homeowners’ policy. I think they’re well within their rights to want to know if you’ve built a meth lab in your last house, have three convictions for arson with two counts of insurance fraud.

  Anyway, which one of us is right? I think that because a person’s conviction history is a matter of very public record, so it CANNOT be illegal for someone to check it for any reason, really.

  Contrary to public belief, I’ve found that the laws of most states and the policies of most life insurance companies only exclude suicide benefits for a 2 year period.

  If hypothetically a customer was to purchase a policy with the expressed purpose of committing suicide in 2 years, could the insurance company refuse to pay?
