  I am licensed in GA for property & casualty insurance, so I know credit is used to help determine rates for auto & homeowners insurance, but it is considered in health insurance?

  It seems like there are a lot of people here that have no understanding of how insurance works. Then they blame the health insurance companies because they don’t live up to their made up definitions of them.

• My friend was severely injured while babysitting at her neighbor's house. Should homeowners insurance pay?

  My 46-year-old friend was babysitting for her neighbors, in her neighbors’ home. The family dog knocked my friend down the stairs, causing my friend to break her jaw and wrist. She has spent many days in the hospital and will require lots of reconstructive surgery, to say the least! Medical bills are already piling up. Shouldn’t her neighbors’ homeowner’s insurance be covering this? They have not offered to contact the company and my friend does not know how to proceed. To make matters worse, the neighbor whose dog caused the injury is an insurance agent!
  She was not being paid for the babysittiing. The homeowner (insurance guy) called, at the last minute, to say he needed my friend to come over to do him a "favor" and watch his kids, so he could take his wife out to dinner for her birthday. Does this influence the situation? Also, my friend’s health insurance is refusing to pay her emergency room bills because the only orthopedic doc on duty was "out of her network". No new (in-network) docs will now take on her case, because they say it is too complicated. She has had to "eat" through a straw and her weight has fallen below 100 pounds (she is 5′6"). Friends and family have been doing their best to help her with her kids/housework, etc. Because she is not able to drive, her husband has had to take time off from work to take her to doctor’s appointments. These people are her next-door neighbors and are fully aware of what is happening, but haven’t even called to check on my friend or offer help in the 3 weeks since the incident.

  What is she even talking about? What kind of life insurance do I have? Im over 21 yrs old, so I can cash out, but I was told not to do it– I just have no idea what anyone is talking about bc I thought you just paid a monthly/yearly fee for life insurance like you do on car insurance or health insurance. My parents are very wealthy– how much could this be worth?

• Dear Muslim Brothers & Sisters: Which fatwa says my life/health insurance is haram?.?

  1. I just needed some insurance. That’s all.

  2. The ‘contract between myself & the insurance company is to protect myself & my family whenever we faced difficulties in health & loss of lives. That’s all.

  3. Whatever they (the insurance co.) do with the money is absolutely has ‘nothing to do’ with the contract agreed between the insurance company & me.

  4. If one says haram because they take into consideration all other investment the insurance company dealt with, which may include ‘interest/ursury’ on short term deposits, that’s absolutely has nothing to do with me.

  5. If there’s a ‘fatwa’ prohibits the insurance due to ’source’ or ‘income’ of the funds, then we cannot sell food, sell house, sell anything to the bankers, to the businessman too as their businesses are financed by banks thus their source of money is haram. We basically infringe ourselves from all economic activities & infringe ourselves from all benevolent reasons. And that is NOT Islamic.

  A home health agency employee was taking care of my mother in her home and started a kitchen fire. Can she recover damages from the home health agency and also file a claim with her homeowners insurance? We don’t know if the home health agency will go through their insurance company or just pay her outright for damages. If they just pay her for damages, can she still file and collect from her homeowner’s insurance?
  Pleas clarify this point:
  If the home health insurance pays my mother for damages without filing a claim thru their insurance company, can she file a claim with her insurance company also?
