Any reason a 77 year old woman should buy life insurance?
I got some helpful advice relating to long term care insurance. A follow-on question: Is there any reason for a 77 year old widow in good health to purchase life insurance? I think of life insurance being required for people on whom others rely for support/income. But if nobody is relying on your income, is there any reason to buy insurance at this late stage? Any reason to have life insurance as part of your estate?
Thanks.

How do I buy insurance (health, life, disability, long term, etc.)? I’m self-employed and my wife is pregnant.
I have no clue how the insurance industry works, so I feel like I’m in a bad position to bargain shop. I tend not to trust slick advertising. Do I need to read a book? Are there trust-worthy, friendly, smart professionals who can meet and talk with you about this? What are they even called??

How long did it take the people of Massachusetts to figure out how to milk mandatory health insurance?
Here is what they do.
They refuse to buy insurance and pay fines (that’s cheaper)
Whenever they anticipate significant health care spending, they buy insurance for 00.
Then quickly they have all their surgeries, insurance pays ,000
Three month later they terminate insurance and switch to cheaper fines. -

When to buy motorcycle insurance?
I’m planning to buy a used motorcycle from a private party within the coming month or so. My question is, do i buy the motorcycle first, take it home, then get it insured? Or do i legally have to buy insurance first before i can purchase it from the private party?

When Howard Dean bucks the Administration on the Health Care Bill, How Much Life Does it Have Left?
Howard Dean, who we may recall used to be the head of the Democratic National Committee, and who is also a physician (and therefore knows what he’s talking about on the topic of health care), has urged the defeat of this newest health care bill.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_health_care_overhaul_dean is the Yahoo News post of an AP article on the subject (just so we can abort the knee-jerk assertion that this is an item from Fox News).
Quoting from the article:
" Former Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean argued Wednesday that the health care overhaul bill taking shape in the Senate further empowers private insurers at the expense of consumer choice — a claim the White House rejected.
"You will be forced to buy insurance. If you don’t, you’ll pay a fine," said Dean, a physician. "It’s an insurance company bailout." Interviewed on ABC’s "Good Morning America," he said the bill has some good provisions, "but there has to be a line beyond which you think the bill is bad for the country."
"This is an insurance company’s dream," the former Democratic presidential candidate said. "This is the Washington scramble, and it’s a shame."
Dean argued that the Senate’s health care bill would not prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage for preexisting conditions and he also said it would allow the industry to charge older people far more than others for premiums."
Exactly what most of us who are against this abortion of a bill have been saying from the get-go.
My question (and it’s a real question, not a rant) is "How Much Life Does This Healthcare Bill Have Left?"
A good second, follow-up question is
"How long do we have until we have until the REAL negotiations Obama promised us, televised on C-SPAN, with representatives of all the stake holders present and having their say, to hammer our a real, not paid-for by the insurance companies and forced on the people by IRS health-care plan?"
@Patches: Dean still has strong moderate support in the Democratic Party. Ben Nelson is another moderate whose refusal to add his vote to override potential Republican filibusters of the health care bill, despite the Obama administration’s threats to shut Strategic Command headquarters down at Offutt AFB in Nelson’s home state in retaliation.
@ggraves: I agree. I never really understood how the eeehaw" thing cost him the primaries – I tend to think that was the press deciding Dean was "bad."" -
Can I pass my UK Car insurance Deductables to the US Car insurance company?
I’ve had my car insurance in the UK for 10 years and have 70% no claims discount (deductables as you would call it in the US).
But because I’m here now in the US permanently, is it at all possible to pass my deductables from my UK insurance company to that in the US when I need to buy insurance?
oops sorry, I mean Bonus discounts.
Thanks.
