To lower the cost of AUTO insurance, is it LEGAL to change address just for that purpose?
I live & work in NYC, and want to change my drivers license address to Upstate, NY to lower the cost on Auto insurance. I will be driving the car in NYC and have all documents, registration and auto insurance in Buffalo, NY. In worst case scenario, would the insurance company honor my claim if any accident take place in NYC?

autoinsurance.bebto.com – try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.

Moron. That is fraud and why us poor honest bastards end up paying higher rates.

You’ll actually have to move to Upstate NY, change your license, actually live in Buffalo, and change your mailing address. And have an 8 hour commute. Don’t do it Mr.Insurance Fraud.

It is not legal and they will probably find it out soon, because licence companies are required by law to submit renewal/termination info to your DMV and your address at DMV and the one with Licence company will mismatch.

It would be fine if you owned a home in Buffalo.

No it is not legal. If you make a claim, when the insurance company finds out you have been defrauding them, your coverage will be voided. You aren’t the first bonehead to think of this, and the insurance company will catch you.
