What’s the best way to get auto coverage before looking to buy a car? In other words, I need some kind of coverage in order to drive a friend’s car/or family car to find a car to buy. Do I call an agent first, or the licensing bureau for a temporary permit of some sort, or what? Thanks

I recommend an online insurance quote. It’s free and generally hassle free.

If u dont own a car, then u dont need insurance. But to drives a friends car u need a valid drivers liscense and their insurance will cover you.

You can buy an insurance policy that covers you as the driver without having a scheduled vehicle. These policies are not common but are available. You might surprised by the cost though…from what I know they are much more expensive then a traditional auto policy.

In the mean time when someone loans you their vehicle, you are covered under their auto policy. Be careful though because if you are regularly driving their vehicle and have access to it, their insurance company may require that you be added to the policy.

Hope it works out for ya

You can’t get car insurance, before you have a VIN number for the car you want to insure.

To drive a family car, you get added to the family auto insurance policy. You should have been added, anyway, the day you got your license.

Find an independent agent in your area using your zip code at this link:

Or go to your local yellow pages.

You want to seek an independent agent because they represent more than one insurance company…

You can’t get auto insurance until you get a car. I dont understand why your family wont allow you to just drive their car. Unless your pretty new at driving then I suggest you have a more experienced drive go with you.
