    I agree with Jack P – you should talk to a knowledgeable broker (rather than an insurance sales agent) in your area who can help you pick the best plans for both health and life insurance. Simple initial consultations may be free.

    If you’re asking about your role in the selection process, you may want to prepare by learning about your father’s cash flows (or simply income), about his current health, try to persuade him to quit any harmful habits and most importantly – you should be supportive and make sure he knows he can rely on you in these matters.
