I live in an area where I can only ride for half the year, yet all of the policies cover 12 months. Does anyone know of a company that offers six month packages? A second question, does taking a Riding course offer a sizable discount with ? Thanks

It depends on what state you are in. Some states, you HAVE to buy the full 12 month policy – the fact that you can’t ride six months is built into the liability rate.

The riding course saves MORE money, the younger you are. Once you’re past 40 or so, it’s NOT a significant savings.

Most states would require that you always have liability insurance if it is registered. And if you have a loan, your lender would likely require insurance throughout the year to protect their interest in it (in case it is damaged or stolen), or they would provide their own insurance at much higher cost to you.

If you own it free and clear, you may be able to get just liability insurance on it for part of the year. My boss does that for his Corvette (which he does not drive in winter).

State Farm does have 6 month policies. But depending on your state you bike might have to keep insurance on it or the state may cancel your registration. It is that way in California.

And, taking a Riding course is a good idea especially if your a newer driver but it does not give you a discount with State Farm. Each company and state is different so you have to ask each company you speak to.
