Other than asking you, how would your homeowners insurance agency know the breed of your dog. I have been thinking about adopting a pit/pit mix but I am worried because my homeowners insurance does not cover certain breeds. So how do they know if you have one of those breeds? Particularly if its a pit mix? Does that count as a restricted breed? Do they check your home? Ask for papers on the dog?
If it is a "pit mix" is it okay/lawful for me to just say it is a mix?

You are required by law to answer what they ask you – if you do not or answer fradulantly – your policy will be voided or they will not pay a claim should that be required.

They ask you. Then if something happens and your dog is injuried, they assist with that breed alone.

Well, if heaven forbid that dog bites someone…your Homeowner’s insurance will refuse to cover it so it’s all outta your pocket…and they will find out from a claim being filed.

its all about honesty, when e bought our house our insurance didn’t cover certin breeds, so when the renewal came up my insurance e-mail and asked if all is well and everything still the same. So its really about honesty.

If there is an incident with your dog, and they find out or decide that your dog is of a disallowed breed, they will deny the claim and may cancel your coverage.

You can lie through your teeth but if something happens & the dog bites someone the insurance will NOT cover it. They may even drop you cause you knew the rules & regs & you violated it.
Who ever gets bit could take your home if the bite was serious.
Or if the dog destroys walls, doors, screens, yard, you insurance will not cover it.
Pits can be very destructive plus their temperament is not the best & that can pose another problem.
Adopt another breed & stay away from the Pits ! ! ! !
