How will my homeowners insurance policy be affected?

My husband was convicted of theft in 3rd degree and forgery in 3rd degree in New Jersey. I know the 3rd degree convictions equal felony convictions. My question is how will that affect my homeowners policy? Will they drop us come renewal or will the premium increase? I ask because when we did the application it asked if we had any convictions in the past 10 years and at the time there was nothing but now its been almost 4 years later and he screwed up big time.

Likely, they won’t know. They won’t ask, and you don’t have to tell them. It’s not something that gets checked upon renewal.
As long as you keep your policy with the same company, you’re safe, and this conviction shouldn’t affect your policy AT ALL.

It will not effect your policy. However, if you ever put in a claim for theft your backgrounds could be investigated. Most theft claims are investigated. And, his convictions could be an issue because the insurance company could think your committing fraud.
Be careful in putting in any theft claims. Just a suggestion and something to think about.
