    i pay $611 per year for liability on my gsxr 750 through progressive. 20, honolulu, 1 seat belt ticket, 1 red light ticket (currently being contested), and 1 fender bender.

    Have you taken a MSF course? that is a pretty big discount right there. If one of your parents has a motorcycle endorsement you might be able to save money by putting it in their name.

    Not sure about CA, but, in MA it would depend on the coverage you want. For instance, a new bike bank financed (IE the bank owns it) they want their machine fully covered (IE fire, theft, and collision). If you buy the bike outright, new or used, then you can put the minimum coverage on it, and hope you don’t crash, burn, or be stolen. But yes, the ticket would still make it cost a little more.

    there are a lot of variables. Do you want full coverage(ouch) or just liability ? The motorcycle you ride will also have a lot to do with the cost of the insurance. A fast bike with a fairing and stuff will cost you a lot to insure. A standard bike that has a smaller (slower) motor will lower the costs of insurance.

    This may sound stupid but it actually worked out better for me. I paid $320 a year for a ZRX1200 full coverage, bought my wife a Honda 250 and paid $50 a yr for her’d. My insuranced dropped to $150 a year for multi bike discount. Not sure if this will work for you but if you get a really really cheap bike (street legal) and put bare minimum coverage on it, you might get a discount on the bike that you’ll do most of your driving on.

    Granted I only pay $20 a year for plates so it still works out for me, not sure in Ca. Left Big Sur in 84 what plates cost now,

    ur too old to be put under dad’s insurance. even still, the insurance companies will basically rape u until ur 25…ticket or no ticket. and if u get a ticket, they’ll bend u over even more usually. if ur bike is a rocket, expect to get bumped into a higher rate more than a cruiser would for the same offense.
