Just wondering because one of my friends says she only pays half of her a month and she is paying 0 and that seems pretty steep.

That is steep, I pay about $50/month for Bike. But depends on the bike, and where you live. My bike is 650cc living in L.A.

What your friend claims is true (generally speaking).

For full coverage on my car (2008 Corolla), I pay $716/yr. For the same coverage on my motorcycle (2002 SV650), it costs $186/yr. I get a discount on my auto insurance because I also have my wife’s car and our house insured by the same company.

My car is worth much, much more than my motorcycle. Without collision, the car would cost about 2-3x as much to insure.

$300/mo is insane! If your parents have good driving histories, they can add you as a rider on their policy and your rate will be much cheaper. It was about $1200/yr for insurance on a 93 Tempo when I was on their policy… the insurance costed more than the car after about 2 years.

It all depends on the coverage amounts, type of motorcycle and driving experience. I have full coverage on my 2008 Suzuki Bandit 1250 and it is $350 a year. Just check with your agent or go to one of the online insurance carriers for a quote.

When I’ve been getting insurance quotes I’ve found that insurance for my car is roughly 4x as much as for my bike; about £800 a year compared to about £200.

That’s the main reason I got a bike rather than another car now that we need two sets of wheels in the house.
