If you can’t get group insurance (like through your employer) it will cost you a ton. That is why most healthy people bail on individual insurance and only sick people keep it, driving the cost up more and more.
You will likely end up either paying hundreds a month for mediocre insurance, or paying a little less for bad insurance with a huge deductible ($2,500 or more).
You would be better off moving to Canada or getting a job where you can join a group healthcare plan.

Insurance costs can be based on age, gender, what kind of work or activities you do, etc. On a radio talk show last week the host asked listeners to call-in and say how much they think health insurance should cost………the types who get free insurance at work didn’t have a clue and most said it was worth about $50 a month. Idiots. Mine costs my company $1560 a month and I still pay $2500 out-of-pocket a year. Since there’s nothing wrong with me (I get a physical once a year and never see a doc otherwise) I’ve tried to get some-sort of a "catastrophic" plan, i.e. I’ll pay for routine care and the insurance would just kick-in for a major illness or injury. You can’t buy such a thing around here and everyone has to have the same coverage plan at work. So the Dems think they can add 30 million people and it won’t cost anything? What a joke.

The rates are dictated by:
Age
Life style choices (smoker)
Pre exisiting conditions
The deductible and copays you are willing to accept
The Life Time Maximum the plan offers.
What you really want to do at this point is have continous coverage for at least 11 months without a lapse of coverage for more than 63 days. This eliminates the pre exisiting condilion issue. You will see plans fron $60-$500 per month depending on you needs and what is appropriate for you
