What would you do . . .
a) Pay the fine and take the Defensive driving course – It doesn’t go on your driving record
b) Go to court and gamble – if the officer shows up you pay and it goes on your record, your goes up- if the officer doesn’t show up you record remains clean, you don’t pay – case dismissed

To get the correct answer, contact your insurance company. Any other answer would be pure speculation.

I get paid 4 hours overtime to show up at court, even if I’m there for ten minutes.. If I don’t show, I get suspended for a day. What do you think I do?

You should take driving school and avoid the points.

If you "gamble" and go to court, because 98 % of the time the officer will be there, you will get full fine, full points, court costs AND probably court ordered driving school.

As far as the insurance, it depends on your company and their policies on the issue. I have heard people tell me that their insurance did not increase for one ticket… and I have had people tell me their insurance company cancelled them for one ticket!

Its private business. They are not requried to keep you. They want to minimize their risk while maximizing profits.

Plead Not Guilty. In nearly all cities you will have the opportunity to speak with a city prosecutor prior to seeing a judge. In nearly all cases the city prosecutor will reduce the fine and put you on probation for 30-90 days, after that period the ticket is dismissed.

If you plead nolo contende you will usually have to pay the full fine amount and take a driving course. Go to the court, save yourself 8 hours.

    a) Actually, it will still go on your record. The myth exists to get people to not fight the system. But the defensive class will lessen the blow to your insurance.
    b) There’s only a small chance the cop won’t show. But before it becomes the court case, when you go in to plead, the judge has the authority to throw out or nolle the case — this is where the odds are the best. Take it seriously, don’t be a wise guy, and watch the people in front of you. It’s like the boardroom in "The Apprentice" — regardless of what you did, you can get off or bury yourself. Hopefully, you went just a little over and this was a first offense. Otherwise, you’re in trouble.

Get an attorney. Your insurance cost will go WAY up. Don’t go to court and gamble, because you’ll lose in the end by paying very very high insurance rates for 3 years.

The price of the lawyer is worth it, and you don’t even have to show up in court if you have a lawyer. My insurance DOUBLED after I got a speeding ticket and went to court myself. Several years later I got a ticket and paid a lawyer $200 and he got the whole thing dismissed!!!!

Much better than paying double insurance premiums every month for 3 years.
