I applied for a life and yesterday morning, they came to my office to do an exam. It’s the first time in a while I’ve had major blood work done, etc., so I’m a bit nervous about the results (though I’m expecting them to be fine). How long does it usually take to hear the results of the tests, blood work, urine, etc., and who will I hear from?

In most cases, it shouldn’t take more than a week after you’ve completed all initial underwriting requirements for them to be in the underwriter’s hands. You can request your results, but otherwise they will not be given to you. Depending on the underwriter’s initial assessment, he may require additional tests or access to your medical records, but only in the event that there are apparent health concerns or irregularities in the initial exam.

They don’t actually give you the results of the medical tests. Your agent will let you know if you are approved or not. However, based on the results of certain tests the insurance company may increase your quoted premium. You should hear in about 7 business days. The agent is motivated to move quickly because his or her commission payment is processed when you are approved.

It takes a couple of weeks. You can ask that the results be mailed to you or your doctor.

If everything is perfect, less than two weeks.
