We are getting ready to own our first home. We were renting the home we are in and will soon be an actual owner, so we’ve just had renter’s content policy all this time with the same co. our is with (American Family) wondered about others’ experience with policies and suggestions of companies.

    If you were happy with American Family why not stay with them? They will probly give you a discount on the homeowners insurance because you had a renters insurance policy and because you are already with them. They will probly give you a loyalty discount.

    Call American Family first for a quote. And, try to get your auto insurance and homeowners insurance with the same company for the most discounts.

    Whatever you do don’t go with Fulmount Mutual! If you ever have a cliam working with them is a nightmare.

    A survey on YA is completely useless to you. Not all companies write in all states, and the best company in Texas, might not be the best in Iowa.

    You’re better off asking family and friends who live in your area. You also need to call and get a variety of quotes, because in the end, there’s no short cut – to find the best for YOU, you have to shop around.

    You should go to an independent insurance agent in your area. They write for more than one company, and can offer you multiple options on quotes.Search yahoo for "indepenent insurance agent asociation in XXXXX" (your state) and you can do a search at the website.
