In most cases, you have a deductable that you need to pay that the insurance company will not cover. Most people it is between 500 and 1000. What you need to do is cover the difference. You can not expect your insurance company to cover the difference.
Now, if the repairs went over the amount quoted, you can try to get your insurance company to adjust the amount they paid.

the insurance company is only responsible to pay you for their own adjusters estimated amount of your damage. If your damage costs alot more to fix then the insurance company paid you, then I suggest you get your own appraisal and submit this to your adjuster. They will at that time determine if they will reopen your claim and adjust the payout, or if it will be declined.
Remember, that the damage may be due to certain things that your policy doesnt cover, and thats why they paid you less then the whole damage amount really is.
