Is there any way to apply or receive FREE health in or near Brandon, Florida. I am a college student here and don’t want to pay for health b/c its expensive. I used to live in New York and know that there there are many companies that give free health for low income people. Any help?

That would be, Medicaid. Welfare insurance. You’ll have to apply for it though the medicaid office of your state of residence.

I’ve never heard of ‘free health insurance’, other than through Medicaid. Some cities have programs at low or no cost covering CHILDREN, but none that I know of for adults.

Most colleges offer low-cost student group insurance. Have you checked there?

I lived in Brandon for 20 years. There’s no free insurance if you’re 18+. Taxes in Florida are a lot less than in NY so you won’t get as many freebies from the state.

If you’re a student at USF, go here http://shsweb.shs.usf.edu/ins/Insurance.html to find out about their student insurance. It will cost you about $100 a month.

If you’re at HCC, you’ll need to check with the guidance counselors to see if they have something available. I don’t think they do.

Your only other option is to get a job that offers benefits and work while you get your degree.
