When you think about it, how could medical insurance run by a corporation ever be affordable? The goal of a corporation is to maximize profit. Their loyalty is not to the customer, but to the shareholders. They pay only enough lip service to customers to keep them making payments, and are aggressive in looking for that spot.
From a corporate standpoint – with their fiduciary obligation to the shareholders in mind – medical insurance MUST provide the least possible service for the most money.
How anyone could think that this makes sense or shouldn’t be reformed is way beyond me.
I realize that I haven’t answered your question, but I just had to vent a little.

I have Anthem and it’s great. They offer medical, vision, and dental.

I’m not surprised that the group insurance rates available from your husband’s job are too high.
Group insurance is often higher because the insurance company has to insure unhealthy people more so than they do when they sell directly to consumers.
If you are healthy, you should shop around with the various carriers in your state that sell directly to individuals and families. You can get a list of companies from your state’s insurance department. One of the links below is to a web page with the list of insurance departments for each state along with their websites and phone numbers.
I did a short video recently of tips to help people find the best policy. I put a link to a page with the video below.
I’m an insurance agent in Connecticut, but the tips should be useful for anyone in any US state.
Good luck to you and your family.
