Did the Democrats just get stabbed in the back by the health insurance companies?

pen and graph

On the eve of the Senate Finance Committee’s plan to vote, Am. Health Insurance Plans has issued a report predicting increases in annual insurance premiums of up to 00 by 2019 if health care reform passes. Mere coincidence? Whatever happened to insurers’ promises to cooperate in bringing costs down?

  1. Dom the Groucho Marxist Says:

    It is all BS!
    They lied– again.
I once worked for Oxford Health Plans (now United Heathcare). When we went through a tough financial period they cut out Friday bagels for the employees while the President and CEO, Dr. Norman Payson received 11.5 million dollars per year. Maybe Dr Norm could have made due with just a mere 11 million per year and we could have kept a small perk that everyone loved.

The for profit Health Insurance industry is pure evil.

Universal care– with a public option is the way to go. It is working in Massachusetts.

    =0)

    I hope.

  3. bash Says:

They’ve been stabbing all Americans in the back for decades…why stop now?

  4. Capitalist and proud of it Says:

the report that you’re referrring to seem legitimate. After all, how can you cover millions more people, remove higher premiums for pre-existing conditions, deny no one and still have no increase in costs???

  5. redbeard Says:

I would be careful as to whom I assumed was stabbing who. Is it not possible that the insurance comapnaies have realized that this bill is the beginning of the end for them?

  6. Warren T Says:

NO THEY WILL JUST CLAIM THE INSURANCE COMPANIES WERE LYING.

  7. tonalc2 Says:

Unfortunately, a lot of them presented themselves as willing targets.

Reform without a public option is just a present to the insurance companies. If insurance is mandated and the companies have no competition, they can charge whatever they want. I wish people would realize this.

  8. Randy B Says:

Another reason to get rid of insurance companies all together when it comes to basic health care. If you want to buy extra coverage or buy coverage for travel thats one thing but basic health care should be a right that all citizens are entitled to. These companies are in business for one purpose only…to make money so there is no way they are going to lower anything regardless of what they say.

  9. G Says:

The insurance industry has never been serious about reforming the insurance industry. This is not a stab in the back, but a final spasm of opposition as Congress continues to push through reform.

During the August recess, for example, the industry lobby group, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), were spending over $1million a day to defeat health care reform. This includes paying people to show up to town halls, and sending out emails to employees asking them to show up to town halls and voice opposition (not suggesting everyone at those town halls were paid, but many certainly were).

The insurers’ promises to cooperate in bringing costs down were hollow, and they know it. Their "listening campaign" over the summer was shut down to the public after a couple stops b/c the presenters couldn’t answer people’s questions about how they plan to reconcile dedication to profit with what American’s want, a dedication to health. (Campaign for an American Solution can be found on the web, but actual events cannot).

  10. SERENAZ Says:

Health insurance companies are businesses … they don’t care about the welfare of ordinary Americans, they only care about the big $$$$$ they make and want to continue to make.
Mmmm … I wonder what the health insurance cover for ‘back stabs’ is these days … most probably not covered in their fine print.

  11. Leni Dutchess of Beggars Says:

No, they came after them with automatic assault weapons, the gun of choice by killers. That is what some of them are when they refuse to cover treatment for those who are dying from what they deem a pre exsisting condition.

Anyone who does not think for one moment that they will not at some time be refused coverage is in serious denial.

As far as these guys, and their hired guns (lobbyist) the only thing that matters to them is the bottom line, $$$$$$.

  12. James Says:

Of course. They are just finally realizing that they can’t rob Americans anymore, so they’re making a last ditch attempt to keep their overinflated fortunes.

My family pays about as much a month as we need a year. That needs to change, now.

  13. anti-obama = pro america Says:

haha ya they screwed them over.. thank god

  14. this Pirate Girl isa Lost Sailor Says:

no, … EVERYONE … CONTINUES … to get stabbed in the back by insurance companies.
Typical of how things work these days. Sad but true.

  15. Bouncing Kelly Bundy Says:

Why are you surprised? The insurance companies run this country.

    What time is the Revolution?

  16. sometimeswrong Says:

These backroom thugs are in their death throws and are making every effort to survive. They are about to loose total control and they know it. They have had a free reign with no recourse against them too long. They are beginning real hardball now.

  17. Bopped Says:

The dems and everyone else in the country. Remember nataline sarkisyan
