complaint about a car insurance company?

i am so dissatisfied with my previous car insurance company. they just tried everything they can to rip me off. i wonder:
1. where i can go to file a complaint: i will describe how i was mistreated by that insurance company.
2. also, what agency that give a rating to insurance companies? can i contact them to tell them about my story.
i think we need to support good insurance companies. for those bad apples, we need to let the public know. thanks

Try shopping for quotes. That way you choose. But if your history is bad you"ll pay more . Shop just the same.

Some states, such as California, have an insurance commissioner as part of state government.
Otherwise, Better Business Bureau is always a place to start.
If your story is well documented, your local TV station with a consumer-oriented reporter may be interested in your story.

Most states have an insurance commission or some type of consumer affairs office where you can complain about insurance companies. But keep in mind that you choose your insurance company, and if you aren’t happy with one company you certainly can vote with your feet and go somewhere else for coverage.
The best way to find a company that meets your needs and keeps you happy is to find a good independent agent that isn’t tied to any particular company, and tell him what your needs are. With that information he can find a company you can live with.
You didn’t explain why you thought your prior company was trying to rip you off, so I can’t comment there, except to remind you there are two sides to every story.

I’m not aware of ANY HONEST corporations in America these days! However, the avenue they have chosen (self-destruction by means of greed) is certainly taking its toll on the largest of corporations!
Back to your question, your state has some form of agency who licenses and regulates the industry. You will need to research the agency, contact them, and file a formal complaint! But prior to that, you should read your policy in its entirety because there is a lot of "FINE PRINT" that allows them to "scam" you in return for political contributions!!!!

You need to search to find out if there is a state insurance department. Their titles vary. They could be the Department of Insurance for your state, or the Insurance Administration, etc.
The ratings that are done, say by, Jd Power, are not "phoned in". The data is collected through some process they use to survey. AM Best ratings are just financial soundness.

You need to go to http://www.bbb.org companies hate to have bad complaints with them. Even if you find something else to share your story at least you can go to the bbb.org. This will help future customers know how bad you are being treated.
