My boyfriend is applying for through his job and I need health coverage too. Can he add me to his policy even though we are not family?

    If you are living together, sharing household bills etc. then yes, he can.

    I was able to add my husband to my insurance before we were even engaged… but we had to qualify as "domestic partners".

    -typically NO however go to your state’s general laws and review the law specific to what defines "family" members and then on to the laws governing health insurance coverage for your state
    If the co inhabitant can prove residence with you for a period of time that meets the statute for common law marriage then-MAYBE you can squeeze in …you can also simply ask the health plan administrator for his company— but they don’t always know mine told me my daughter was covered because she was jaundiced at birth due to a blood incompatibility & she was dead wrong-but if I didn’t research it myself she would have cost me $4K
    Just marry the guy…that solves doing all that homework!!!

    Hello. I hope this information helps you. Most insurance companies have their own rules and policies. You would have to call your boyfriend’s insurance company to see if you can be added. My guess is that it will cost more or that it is not allowed. Usually spouses are covered.
