I don’t own a car, but I plan on renting one real soon. I was just wondering if its required to have some auto already prior to getting CDW for the rental.

Since you don’t have regular insurance, definitely get the rental insurance. If you did have your own car & insurance, the rental insurance is a complete waste of money since your own insurance would cover the rental.

Oh yeah, when you rent a car, the RENTAL company provides insurance :) ….You have to pay an extra fee of like 7 bucks a day for insurance. I’ve never used my own insurance company to cover a rental car…..

Rental car insurance offers many benefits to the motorist. It provides protection against financial loss in the case of an accident. Car rental insurance will fully cover any damages caused to your car. It will also pay for any damages for which you are not at fault and at the same time will pay for damage of both cars in case you were at fault. There are other insurance policies which provide various cover but rental insurance covers all repair costs. For more you can read this article.

Yes you can, as a matter of fact that is exactly what CDW or LDW is for. Many people don’t know this but if you already have an insurance policy in your name (not an additional driver) on a vehicle, your coverage automatically extends to rental cars, even if its not something that your insurace company advertizes or states in its fine print, in most states its against the law for them NOT to provide it.
