I had a claim for hail damage last year ,my at that time was 500 dollar deductible and about 600 per year , my policy is up for yearly renewal and they want to charge me 950 per year with a 5,000 deductible .I just refinanced to a lower rate and the bank sent them the 950 , could I cancel and go with a company that offers a lower rate ?.

Absolutely – but you might have to front the insurance money. Your new agent can help get the old policy cancelled and the money refunded to either you or the escrow account.

Keep in mind, if you’ve had any OTHER claims in the past three years besides the hail claim, you might have a very hard time finding another company to write your insurance.

That’s crazy…yeah, change if you can. Call your broker and see if they have a different company.
