Most insurance companies offer what’s called a "multiple car discount". If your mom’s name is on the title of your car, as well as your name, you can be added to her insurance policy. But if you have the car only in your name, then you need to ask your insurance agent if there is a family policy. Some insurance companies allow family members to own a joint policy to cover all the cars owned by members of the same family, but some do not.
The person who said they are on their mom’s policy has not made it clear whether they own their own car separate from their mom or are simply listed as an additional driver to the mother’s car.
Your best bet is to talk to your mom’s insurance agent.

You have to have insurance on your OWN car, also.
Anyone who says "insurance follows the car" or "insurance follows the driver" is not being precise.
An insurance policy will never carry over to another vehicle OWNED by a household member, but not LISTED on the policy. So. Car must be insured. Driver must be insured. BOTH of them, must be insured.
