Can 3 adults be covered under one family health insurance plan?

My husband is ordered by divorce decree to cover his ex-wife and son for health insurance. He is now married to me and we have a son. Up to 3 weeks ago when I lost my job, I just carried my own individual health insurance through my company. I think I should be on his family plan now and not her. Does anyone know if the ex-wife can be carried on the same plan and my husband and me and our kids as a dependent?

The ex-spouse is usually not eligible for health insurance coverage once a person remarries. You, as current spouse, and all of his children, should be on his family plan.

I believe so yes. He would have to send to the insurance company a copy of the divorce decree saying he will cover them. My ex husband has to carry our 2 boys as well as his child with his second wife, all his life insurance etc. is decreed to me for our children, and he has to have a separate policy for his wife. There was not a problem with our life insurance company doing that, I think it is fairly common now.

Nope, an ex wife is NOT a dependent for an insurance policy. He’s committing insurance fraud by carrying her – in order to have her on his policy, he must be calling her his WIFE. The child is another matter – because his son DOES qualify, in most cases.
Your husband cannot list two wives on his health insurance policy. That’s illegal in the USA.
In order to meet the court order, he has to buy and pay for a private policy.
