History of American Family Insurance

In the early 1990s, Herman Wittwer, a struggling insurance seller, observed that farmers as a group were exposed to the risk involved in farmland. With an innovative idea and dream he launched his Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company on October 3, 1927.

With times his company changed to include towns, suburbs and metros. And in 1963, the company’s name was changed to American Family Mutual Insurance Company.
